Leadership 

Leadership competency is necessary for the successful performance of contract managers, even when they are not in formal leadership positions. Leadership competency in contract management facilitates and fortifies the integration of all other contract management competencies.

 

CMBOK - Management

Management 

Management competency is important to the performance of contract managers because it consists of the basic functions used to enhance individual competence and organizational capability while accomplishing the organization’s contract management goals.

 

CMBOK - Guiding Principles

Guiding Principles 

Guiding Principles for contract management are the principles applicable throughout all phases of the contract life cycle in all contract management circumstances, irrespective of changes in priorities, strategies, requirements, or resources (e.g., personnel, money, equipment, time).

 

CMBOK - Pre-Award

Pre-Award 

Pre-Award is the first phase of the contract life cycle and includes the processes for buyers to produce solicitations and sellers to prepare offers.

CMBOK - Award

Award 

Award  is the second phase of the contract life cycle and involves all the work by both the buyer and seller that produces an awarded contract.  Award is comprised of all the job tasks and competencies required to award a contract.

CMBOK - Post-Award

Post-Award 

Post-Award  is the third phase of the contract life cycle and involves all contract management functions known as contract administration.  Post-Award is comprised of all the job tasks and competencies required to perform and close contracts.

Learn 

The Learn competency is the cornerstone of individual competence and organizational capability. The value of Learn knowledge is in gaining focus on professional development and competence.
