Welcome to the unofficial beginning of summer. This will be the last issue of StudentsConnect until September 2011. In this issue we will conclude our résumé writing tips and discuss the new online assessment for government jobs. NCMA's World Congress is a great way for you to practice your networking skills, gain professional training, and participate in a career fair designed just for contract management professionals, new and established. New Online Assessment for Government Job Applicants Author: Emily Long Source: www.govexec.com Date: April 20, 2011
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has a new assessment tool to replace the complex knowledge, skills, and abilities statements traditionally completed by government job applicants. The online platform, called Assess, is in a pilot phase and will be used to streamline the federal hiring process, Angela Bailey, OPM's deputy associate director for recruitment and diversity, said in an interview on Tuesday.

Learning Corner This section is dedicated to answering the questions you submit. Definitions and basic contract learning tools will also be provided here. Definitions:
- Best Value: Method of evaluating bids in which the contract officer uses many criteria, including the capabilities of the bidder, to determine which offer is in the best overall interest of the buyers.
- Defense Contractor: Any person or organization who enters into a contract with the United States for the production of material or for the performance of services for the national defense.
- Sole Source: A procurement where only one source is available for the goods or services required. Competition is not available in a sole-source procurement.
NCMA Resources: NCMA has established the Guide to the Contract Management Body of Knowledge (CMBOK) as the prevailing guidance for how universities should align their contract management curricula. The guide provides the knowledge areas and competencies that are integral to the contract management process and the contract management profession. Visit the NCMA Bookstore to learn more about the CMBOK and other NCMA publications.
