NCMA University Outreach

Contract management is moving from the backroom to the boardroom. It is being recognized as a corporate asset and is used as a competitive weapon. There is an art and science in bringing together buyers and sellers in the marketplace and crafting long term relationships between them-partnering is difficult. Also, there is a challenge in crafting a mutually beneficial contract-win-win is difficult. Contract management is increasingly seen as a strategic core competency and successful organizations recognize that if you don't have control of your contracts, you don't have control of your business.

Key stakeholders have told us they need well-trained, entry level professionals. Organizations need to quickly identify, hire, and train contract management professionals to be able to deal with current and future threats and opportunities. However, contract management is traditionally not a first career choice. NCMA has taken the lead in offering an opportunity to explore this dynamic career field at no cost to undergraduate students. The bottom line is if you want to be a professional, you must act like a professional. NCMA membership is the ideal first step in establishing an executive image.

The links from this page are designed to help students, and those who are interested in helping them, gain information 1) on the contract management career field, 2) how to become a student member of NCMA, 3) how to start a student chapter, and 4) a number of relevant areas of interest.
