Seven Public Procurement Associations Form National Council of Public Procurement and Contracting
McLean, VA—August 25, 2006 — NCMA is proud to announce the alliance of seven public procurement associations to form the National Council for Public Procurement and Contracting (NCPPC). During the 61st Annual Forum and Products Exposition hosted by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), these associations met and agreed to serve as charter signatories for a federation that will serve as the system for developing ways to advance the profession by collaborating on programs and services that benefit their internal members as well as members of these connected entities.
Since August 2005, officials from these member-based not-for-profit organizations have been meeting to provide expertise toward a official agreement that unite these organizations and form this newly recognized National Council for Public Procurement and Contracting (NCPPC).
Following their first official meeting on August 5, 2006, the council’s top priority was the development of a standard that evaluates the effect of professional certification on compensation, ethics and corruption, formal education, promotional and advancement opportunities, and spending authority. The council will use this benchmark as the momentum for strategic planning and for effective marketing.
The associations (originally seven, now eight) involved include; the California Association of Public Purchasing Officers (CAPPO), the Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officers (FAPPO), the National Association of Education Procurement (NAEP), the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), the National Contract Management Association (NCMA), the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), the National Purchasing Institute (NPI), and the Canadian Public Procurement Council (CPPC) / Conseil canadien des marches publics (CMMP).
The council’s mission is to expand the operation of each member association by developing a mutual network that promotes the contract management, purchasing, and procurement professions through:
- Advocacy of public procurement principles;
- Education, training, and professional certification;
- Applied research studies and activities; and
- Strategic marketing of the public procurement and contracting profession.
