RecertificationAll designees (i.e., CFCM, CPCM, and CCCM) are required to recertify by December 31st of the fifth year following certification, and every five years thereafter. For example, in 2011, those who earned or recertified designation in 2006 are affected.
Recertification When does recertification occur? When does recertification occur? Recertification occurs every five years from the year you initially earned your certification or five years after your last recertification. I have to recertify this year; when do I need to submit my complete recertification application? Recertification applications are to be completed and sent in by December 31st. Recertification applications postmarked after December 31st are considered "lapsed" (please see the related FAQ regarding lost certificates). How much does recertification cost? For members and non-members, recertification is $95. I have multiple NCMA certifications; can I recertify for all of them at the same time? Those who hold more than one certification will have their recertification date extended to coincide with the second recertification date. Those people will be required to submit one application and pay one fee. Furthermore, 60 CPEs will satisfy the recertification requirements for all NCMA designations held. All certifications must be current (not expired) to be eligible for this option. What are the requirements for recertification? A total of 60 hours of instruction, earned over the five-year renewal period is required in order to qualify for recertification. Recertification candidates must send in:
Why have I not been sent my recertification package? NCMA no longer sends out recertification packages. Instead, candidates are to go to the NCMA website to download the requirements and application. I can't remember my certification date and/or certification number, how do I find that out? Candidates can call Member Services at 800-344-8096 for this information. How can I turn in my recertification application and supporting documents? NCMA accepts applications via email, fax, or mail. Please send your application to: NCMA How long does the recertification process take? If the application is complete, the entire recertification application review process can take up 2-4 weeks. During the Certification's busy season (September-March), the review process can take up to 3-8 weeks. If the candidate's application is incomplete or missing information, the process can take longer. The Certification Department will notify those who are missing information via email when their application is reviewed. I turned in my recertification application well over the stated time and have yet to hear anything, how can I a status on my recertification application? If you have turned in your recertification application and it has been over six weeks (eight weeks during September-March) and you have not heard from NCMA, please contact Member Services or the Certification Department at 800-344-8096 I can't make my recertification deadline-can I get an extension? Candidates who know that they are not going to complete the requirements for recertification can request an extension to the Certification Department. Include in your email, your contact information, and reasons why you cannot meet the eligibility deadline. Please be aware that granting extensions are for extreme circumstances and are NOT guaranteed. I missed my recertification deadline, how can I reinstate my certification? For those failing to recertify before the end of the recertification year, NCMA requires the following in order to maintain certified status.
I lost my certificates from NCMA-sponsored conferences, seminars, courses, etc...can I get a transcript from NCMA? At present, no; though we plan to have this service at some point in the future. If this presents a problem for you in satisfying the CPE requirements for certification or recertification, please contact the Education Department providing as many details as possible; the NCMA staff will work with you to resolve the situation. Certificants asking for information for NCMA events attended after 2003 can contact our meetings department at 800-344-8096 ext. 408 for attendance record information. What is the gold recertification sticker I received along with my recertification letter for? The gold sticker showing the recertification year is to be attached to your appropriate NCMA certificate as shown on the Sample. I am eligible for Lifetime Certification the same year I am due to recertify; do I need to apply for regular recertification at the same time? No, you need only to fill out the Lifetime Certification Application and pay the $95 recertification fee once. Designees who are posted overseas may request to the Certification Department that their recertification period be extended if they are posted on an assignment during which they will be unable to satisfy the 60-hour CPE requirement in the five-year renewal period. What is the responsibility of the individual Certificant? Individuals are responsible for (1) seeking opportunities for CPE hours, (2) successfully completing CPE programs and activities, (3) maintaining documentation of the CPE hours completed, and (4) monitoring their own progress toward meeting the CPE requirements. NCMA will not "hold" and/or maintain Recertification applications and CPE documentation for candidates during the five-year recertification period. Recertification applications are only accepted during the last year of the certificant's recertification period. *Applications received without payment will be held for only 60 days. I recertified for both the CFCM and the CPCM but have only received my CPCM renewal letter and sticker-what happened to my CFCM recertification? CFCM certificates have to be ordered and will be delivered separately. Why does my new CFCM certificate have the date of October 1, 2002? The date on the new CFCM certificate reflects the date the program became active. If you earned a Certified Associate Contracts Manager (CACM), you are now considered to be a Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM). Therefore, when you recertify, you will be issued a new CFCM certificate with the date of the inception of the program. This has no bearing your recertification date, which will still be based on the date you originally earned the (CACM) designation. For instance, if you earned the designation or recertified in 1999, you are due to be recertified in 2004 and again in 2009.
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Requirement for Recertification What do you mean by hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE)? What do you mean by hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE)? Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours may be earned in several different ways. Attendances at university or college courses, seminars, workshops, and conferences are some of those ways. For a more detailed explanation of continuing professional education, click here. How many CPE's are required for recertification? For recertification of CFCM, CCCM and/or CPCM, 60 CPE hours are required for every five-year recertification period. What subject areas can be counted toward the CPE's? Contract Management, Purchasing, Finance, Accounting, Ethics, Marketing, Business Law, Management, Operations Management, Economics, Quantitative Methods. What sources of training are acceptable toward the CPE requirements for certification?
How are CPE's measured by NCMA? NCMA uses the following conversion for CPE's: Do the required CPE hours have to come from NCMA-sponsored materials, seminars and/or courses? No, CPE hours do not have to be earned through any specific institution, school, association or group. What kind of documentation do I need to send in with my recertification application to verify my 60 CPE hours? NCMA must see documentation that will verify (1) your attendance at a function/event and (2) the number of hours spent in that event. Here are examples of acceptable documentation.
During my recertification period, I earned a college degree; can those courses count toward the 60 CPE requirement? Yes, courses related to contract and business management courses can count toward the 60 CPE hours. For a list of acceptable subjects, please refer to the document CPE Requirements
Other I have lost my original certificate, how do I order another one? Certificants can order duplicate certificates by downloading and sending in the Duplicate Certificate Order Form to NCMA HQ.
I have had a name change and would like another certificate, what do I need to do? Certificants will need to send in a completed Duplicate Certificate Order Form along with a copy of an official name change document such as a marriage license.
