The principles are a part of a project to help professionalize public procurement through the establishment of values, guiding principles, and practice standards. As a Supporting Organization, NCMA supports the concept of the collaborative development of guidance for the public procurement profession. The project, which now has five standards in the works, is found at

In comments made after the NIGP Board’s official adoption of the Value and Guiding Principles, NIGP’s Chief Executive, Rick Grimm, said “Agencies that embrace these Values and Guiding Principles—and actively reflect them in their procurement practices—let their communities know that they are supported by professionals committed to practices consistent with the values of good stewardship and their profession.”
