NCMA Announces Winners of the W. Gregor Macfarlan Excellence in Contract Management Research and Writing Program

ASHBURN, VA—June 27, 2012—The National Contract Management Association (NCMA) is pleased to announce the winners of the Sixth Annual W. Gregor Macfarlan Excellence in Contract Management Research and Writing Program.

Professional Category—First Place
Winner: John Wyatt III
Paper: “The Struggle to Achieve Fairness When the Federal Government Terminates a Contract for Its Convenience”

Graduate Category—First Place
Winner: Collin D. Swan
Paper: “SPOT-on Contracting: Improving Transparency and Contractor Personnel Monitoring in Contingency Operations”

A $5,000 prize will be awarded for each first place winning paper. The winners will present their papers at World Congress, July 29–August 1, 2012, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Professional Category—Honorable Mention
Winner: Allie Stanzione
Paper: “Understanding the Life Cycle of Forward Pricing Rates and Their Impact on Contract Negotiations”

Graduate Category—Honorable Mention
Winners: Helena Haapio, Dr. Gerlinde Berger-Walliser, Dr. Björn Walliser, and Dr. Katri Rekola
Paper: “Time for a Visual Turn in Contracting?”

All four papers will be published in the 2012 Journal of Contract Management, which comes out in September 2012.

For over 40 years, W. Gregor Macfarlan served the contract management profession as a researcher, author, mentor, and teacher. He once served as NCMA’s national president, and held numerous volunteer leader positions with NCMA and the Washington DC Chapter. Still active in the profession at the time of his passing in 2005, he was a senior research associate at LMI Consulting, Inc., in McLean, Virginia.
