NCMA Presents Congressman Tom Davis with Herbert Roback Memorial Award

ASHBURN, Va. – June 18, 2008 – The National Contract Management Association (NCMA) today announced Congressman Tom Davis as the winner of the Herbert Roback Memorial Award. The award will be presented to Davis on Tuesday, June 24 during a dinner reception from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM at Maggiano's in Tysons Galleria. 

“The Herbert Roback Memorial Award is the highest award NCMA confers in acknowledgment of contributions to the betterment of contract management,” said Ron Smith, NCMA President. “NCMA is proud to recognize Congressman Tom Davis for his significant achievements and expertise in government procurement policy.” 

Congressman for Virginia’s 11th District since 1995, Davis has served on the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the Government Reform Subcommittee on Technology and Procurement Policy, the Energy and Commerce Committee, the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, and the Homeland Security Committee. Davis also co-chairs the Information Technology Working Group and serves on numerous charity boards.Prior to Congress, Davis was elected Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors after serving for 12 years as Mason District’s representative to the Board. After nearly 30 years serving the district, the region, and the nation, Davis plans to retire at the end of this year.

Herbert Roback devoted the major part of his professional life to public service in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was a civil servant for 33 years, 23 of those as a staff member of the House committee on Government Operations, the last four as Staff Director. Roback was a prolific writer and lecturer widely recognized as an expert on government procurement, federal organization, and systems management.
