House Introduces Bill to Clarify that Recipients of Federal Payments Related to Health Care Services are not Contractors

On December 3, 2013, Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), along with co-sponsor Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT), introduced the “Protecting Health Care Providers from Increased Administrative Burdens Act” (H.R. 3633). If passed, the bill would prohibit the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs from conferring “federal contractor” or “subcontractor” status on recipients of federal payments related to the delivery of health care services to individuals. The bill was referred to the Committee on Education and the Workforce.
