Senate Introduces Bill to Mitigate Defense Sequestration Cuts for Fiscal Years 2014 and 2015

On December 17, 2013, Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) introduced a bill to mitigate defense sequestration cuts for fiscal years 2014 and 2015 (S. 1841). If passed, the bill would require the Office of Management and Budget to replace sequestration reductions in discretionary appropriations and direct spending accounts for defense functions with less severe reductions in the amounts of $15 billion for fiscal year 2014 and $30 billion for fiscal year 2015. The bill would still implement the full range of sequestration cuts over the lifespan of sequestration, however, by increasing spending reductions in fiscal years 2016–2021. The bill was referred to the Committee on the Budget.
