DOD Revises Cybersecurity Information Sharing Program

On October 22, 2013, the Department of Defense (DOD) issued a final rule responding to public comments on the defense industrial base cybersecurity information sharing program. Under this program, eligible defense industrial base companies receive classified and unclassified cyber threat information from the government and can share information about intrusions on their networks. The final rule clarified certain definitions and deleted language that could be interpreted as requiring participants to provide the government with additional information regarding company policies and practices. While an interim rule (77 Fed. Reg. 27615) was already in effect, the changes provided by the final rule became effective November 21, 2013. (78 Fed. Reg. 62430, 10/22/2013.)
