Senate Introduces Bill to Restrict Contracting after a National Disaster to Local Firms

On January 23, 2013, Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) introduced the “Local Disaster Contracting Fairness Act” (S. 98). If passed, the bill would restrict the use of subcontractors that are not local firms for debris removal or demolition services performed under federal contracts following a natural disaster. The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
