Think Tanks Advocate Defense Cuts Congress Rejects

May 29, 2013

Four diverse defense think tanks had a simple message for Congress on Wednesday as they tackled the complicated task of cutting $500 billion from the Pentagon under sequestration: the status quo is unworkable.

With Congress on recess this week, the think tanks descended on Capitol Hill for a defense budget simulation game that highlighted the frustrations defense observers have had with Congress and the Pentagon over sequestration for the past 18 months.

Analysts from the four think tanks — the American Enterprise Institute, Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, Center for a New American Security and Center for Strategic and International Studies — all warned of the damage to the military that the current budget cuts under sequester would cause.
